Holiday shopping season is right around the corner! Or, if you’re type A like me, it has already started. If you have a frequent traveler in your circle, it sometimes may be hard to figure out what to get them. Where have they already been? What tools do they already have? What would be useful to them? If these are some of the questions swirling around your head, then you have come to the right place!
Below is a list of gift ideas for your adventurous loved one. Whether they’re into luxury, 5-star travel, or hiking through the wilderness, something here is sure to apply.
Rugged, Outdoor Sandals
A couple different brands have been making waves lately with their durable, comfortable, and rugged sandals meant for more than the casual stroll down city streets. Brands like Chaco, Teva, and Keen all offer a variety of options, including hiking boots. I’d recommend the sandals, depending on the traveler of course, but they’re more multi-functional than the other options. They’re waterproof and great for warmer climates, but also offer the support and grip of a typical hiking shoe.
Good for: The Adventurous Traveler, The Hiker, The Travels-to-all-Corners-of-the-World Traveler
You may have seen these scattered around Paper Source and other similar stores, but if you haven’t – prepare for one of the coolest wall decor pieces! This map is reminiscent of those art pieces we did as kids where you scratch off the black surface to show the rainbow colors underneath. Only this has a purpose. The map is coated in a gold foil, and users scratch off the countries to which they’ve been to show the colors underneath. It’s a fun and interactive way to keep track of adventures!
Good for: The Seasoned Traveler, The Goal-Oriented Traveler, The Just-Starting-Out Traveler
Everyone knows the pain of having their phone run out of battery or not being able to get an internet connection. No one knows it more than someone in a foreign country, late at night, lost. In those moments, a portable charger and internet hot spot could literally save a life. Portable chargers are easier to gift, for as low as $13.99. Hot spots get trickier because you have to consider who will continue to fund the internet connection, but if you’re willing to make the commitment, a hot spot is a huge safety net for travelers. Additionally, there’s always the oft-needed power adapter, also for as low as $12.99, which will serve your adventurer around the world.
Good for: The Tech-Savvy Traveler, The Connected Traveler, The Just-Starting-Out Traveler
Safe Storage for Money & Passports
If your traveler doesn’t have a one-pouch-for-all passport holder & wallet, consider getting them one! There are so many options out there, from fashionable to plain, so take a minute to look through the many varieties. Here are all the options for one of my favorite websites. They can be very slim or as large as a small purse, but I would consider getting one that has plenty of pockets, closes securely, and maybe comes with a strap to be able to keep in on your person.
Good for: The Fashion-Forward Traveler, The Organized Traveler
If your traveler is new to the game and hasn’t yet gotten down their flight routine, consider going a little DIY and making them a “flight kit”. Grab a cute basket (or small duffel bag or luggage organizer) and load it up with flying essentials, such as:
- A neck pillow
- Face mask
- Hydrating spray
- Pain killers
- Travel size toiletries
- Cleansing towelettes
- Noise-cancelling headphones
- Flight/motion sickness medication
- iTunes or Amazon gift cards for books, movies, and music
Good for: The Just-Starting-Out Traveler, The Travels-to-all-Corners-of-the-World Traveler, The Needs-her-Beauty-Sleep Traveler
When all else fails, everyone loves a good gift card. If you’re still not sure exactly what to get your traveler, here are some great options:
- Dick’s Sporting Goods
- Airlines: Delta, American, British Airways
- Rail Europe
- General gift cars, like Visa
Be sure to check out discount gift card sites, like Cardpool, to get a deal!
Good for: EVERYONE!
